Several Malls and Office Buildings Install High Fences; Pramono Ensures Jakarta is Safe
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that he is monitoring the phenomenon of high fences being installed in several shopping centres and office areas. According to him, the installation of these fences is allegedly triggered by concerns among some business owners regarding the potential for riots, similar to those that occurred in August 2025.
Pramono emphasised that the Jakarta Provincial Government will ensure the capital remains safe and comfortable for all citizens, including business operators. Consequently, he believes that the installation of fences in various shopping centres and offices does not need to be excessive.
“Personally, as the Governor of Jakarta, I certainly desire for Jakarta to be safe and comfortable. For business actors, including owners of malls, properties, and offices, there is no need to install excessive fencing,” Pramono said on Saturday (1/8/2026).
Pramono added that the Jakarta Provincial Government will soon coordinate regarding the regulation of excessively constructed fences. He noted that such a phenomenon could actually instil fear within the community.
“We must not allow this to create an image that Jakarta is not doing well,” Pramono remarked.
He revealed that the Jakarta Provincial Government continues to coordinate with security and law enforcement agencies. According to him, there is currently no potential for security disturbances in Jakarta.
“As the Governor of Jakarta, I am coordinating with security and law enforcement agencies across various sectors, and I am confident that Jakarta is perfectly safe,” Pramono concluded.
