Several fishing boats in Situbondo damaged by high waves
Situbondo (ANTARA) - Several fishing boats in Jangkar Village, Situbondo Regency, East Java, were damaged by high waves accompanied by strong winds on Sunday.
Personnel from the Maritime and Police Unit (Satpolairud) of the Situbondo Police assisted fishermen in evacuating their boats to the shoreline.
“After receiving information that several fishing boats were damaged by high waves and strong winds, we proceeded to the location to conduct data collection alongside the Indonesian Navy and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD),” said the Head of the Situbondo Police Maritime Unit, AKP Gede Sukarmadiyasa, in Situbondo on Sunday.
Out of nine boats, AKP Gede continued, three suffered severe damage and sank after being hit by the high waves.
“In addition to the damage to the boats, several pieces of fishing gear belonging to the fishermen also sank, including boat engines and other fishing equipment,” he said.
Gede added that as a result of this extreme weather event, the fishermen are estimated to have suffered losses amounting to tens of millions of rupiah, not including the cost of the sunken fishing gear.
