Several Fishermen's Boats at Air Kuning Beach Capsize in Strong Winds
Several fishing boats were capsized and severely damaged after being lashed by strong winds in waters near Air Kuning Beach, Air Kuning Village, Jembrana, on Wednesday 4 March 2026. Fortunately, there were no fatalities as other fishermen on site quickly helped with rescues. The Head of Operations (Kalaksa) of the Jembrana Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said a rapid assessment had been conducted at the scene on Thursday morning after receiving reports from residents. ‘The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA). Initially, several fishing boats were still in waters near Rambut Siwi. However, suddenly strong winds caused the boats to capsize,’ Artana told detikBali on Thursday 5 March 2026. Fortunately, although their boats were tossed by the strong wind and capsized, there were no fatalities. The fishermen who jumped into the sea were quickly helped by other fishermen nearby. ‘All the fishermen were rescued. The affected boats have also been evacuated to shore,’ Artana said. BPBD Jembrana recorded at least five boat owners suffering material losses, including engine damage, lighting equipment, and parts of the boats that were broken or missing. Some fishermen affected include Muhajirin (damaged: 3 engines, 1 generator, and 13 x 300-watt lamps with their poles), Mishud (lost 1 generator, damaged 2 engines, 8 lamps, and 4 coils of rope). Then there is Saiful Bahri (lost 1 generator and 9 lamps, damaged 2 engines, lamp post, gelandangan, and a katir or cadik broken) and Madolah (damage to the katir and bayungan of the boat). ‘For other fishermen, data collection is still ongoing by the Rapid Response Team in the field. We are still compiling the total losses. We urge fishermen to stay vigilant for sudden weather changes while at sea,’ Artana said.
