Several Facilities at Mataram Tourist Destinations Damaged

A number of public facilities at tourist destinations in Mataram have suffered damage, ranging from rust on building structures to aesthetic deterioration. The damage has been caused by the actions of irresponsible individuals.

According to the Mataram Tourism Office (Dispar), several public facilities in tourist destination areas have been damaged, namely the Loang Baloq Park area, Ampenan Beach and Teras Udayana. The damage resulted from the actions of irresponsible people.

The head of Dispar Mataram, Cahya Samudra, said one of the serious concerns is the viewing tower in the Loang Baloq area. The condition of the structure is considered dangerous to visitors because of fairly severe corrosion.

“Especially what is dangerous, the viewing tower at Loang Baloq has suffered more than 30 per cent damage, we must repair it immediately. For the time being, we have closed it because its condition is rusty,” said Cahya when contacted on Wednesday (8/7/2026).

Beyond the major infrastructure, the condition of smaller infrastructure and market stalls at a number of tourist destinations has also come under scrutiny. Regarding the stalls in particular, Dispar Mataram has asked traders to help maintain cleanliness and the durability of the facilities.

“As for other conditions such as the paint, the condition of the stalls must be maintained together with the traders. We are also asking traders to help care for them, especially since the buildings are not that old,” Cahya said.

Cahya stressed that the damaged public facilities at Mataram’s tourist destinations must be repaired immediately. This is especially pressing as Mataram will host the Association of All Indonesian Municipal Governments (Apeksi) event next year. Dispar Mataram will conduct a survey of the points that need to be fixed.

Meanwhile, Fahri, a visitor at Loang Baloq Park, said he was reluctant to sit in the facility areas there because of their poor condition.

“The gazebos are rather rickety, we are afraid they will break if we sit on them. Hopefully the relevant office can act quickly so no one gets hurt,” Fahri hoped.
