Several Chinese companies have committed to investing in Indonesia’s Special Economic Zones (SEZ) through a partnership with the Wahyu Agung Group. The total investment value is estimated to reach Rp8 trillion, aimed at developing the industrial, automotive, electronics, and shipbuilding sectors across various economic zones in the country.

The collaboration was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Wahyu Agung Group and several Chinese firms in Fuzhou, China, on Friday (15/05/202cap). The owner of Wahyu Agung Group, Junianto, stated that this collaboration is a strategic step to strengthen investment flows and accelerate the development of SEZs in Indonesia.

“This collaboration is an important step to strengthen investment, expand industrial networks, and open new economic opportunities in various strategic sectors,” Junianto said in a statement on Monday (18/05/2026).

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by the Deputy for Coordination of Trade and Digital Economy, Ali Murtopo Simbolon, along with officials from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the Fuzhou City Government, Fujian Province.

According to Junianto, the Chinese investments are expected to begin flowing in during the second quarter of this year. The capital will be allocated to several strategic areas, including the Batang SEZ, Tanjung Lesung SEZ, and Bintan SEZ. He further explained that the Chinese government has identified nine leading investors ready to commit to sectors ranging from automotive and electronics to healthcare and shipbuilding.

In addition to the capital injection, the partnership is expected to facilitate technology transfer, improve human resource quality, and create new employment opportunities for communities surrounding the industrial zones. Junianto added that the increased industrial and trade activity from this cooperation is believed to strengthen Indonesia’s position as a primary investment hub in Southeast Asia.
