Several Buildings in Bima City, NTB, Damaged by M 7.7 Earthquake in NTT

A number of buildings in Bima City, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), have been reported damaged following an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 centred in Nagekeo Regency on Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Saturday at 05.58 WITA.

Head of the Bima City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), A Faruk, confirmed that the M 7.7 earthquake was felt across Bima City, resulting in damage to several residential buildings.

“Based on initial data collection, one house sustained moderate damage in South Rabangodu RT 03 RW 01 due to the earthquake tremors,” he said in a statement from Mataram on Saturday.

Damage was also reported at the Bulog warehouse, particularly to the walls, which caused a number of rice sacks inside to fall. Additionally, ceiling damage occurred at the Mutmainnah Hotel Mosque.

“Reports are still being compiled, and data collection and monitoring of the earthquake’s impact are ongoing to ensure the condition of the community and to identify any further damage or other impacts,” Faruk said.

Faruk stated that teams are currently coordinating with disaster volunteer teams in the local sub-districts and directly inspecting the affected sites.

“The general condition of the community remains under monitoring, while data collection and field verification continue to determine any possible damage or other impacts caused by the earthquake,” he explained.

He added that urgent needs currently include logistical support for affected residents, particularly basic necessities such as ready-to-eat food, mineral water, blankets, tarpaulins, mattresses, and family supplies.

Emergency material support is also required, including tarpaulins or temporary covering materials to anticipate situations where damaged parts of houses cannot yet be safely used.

“The fulfilment of logistical needs will be adjusted based on assessment results and developments in the condition of affected residents in the field,” he said.
