Several areas in Jakarta have begun to be affected by drought amidst the current dry season. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that he has received reports of drought hitting various regions. Consequently, he has instructed his staff to carry out the distribution of clean water to the affected areas.

“So, we are continuing to carry out water distribution. I have received reports that there is drought in several sub-districts,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (16/9).

His office will continue to monitor the drought conditions in Jakarta. He ensured that the Jakarta Provincial Government will continue to provide clean water assistance to the drought-stricken areas.

“Whether the reports come through JAKI or directly, we are anticipating this to provide water assistance to the community,” Pramono added.

He assessed that the current drought is an impact of the dry season accompanied by the El Niño phenomenon. He expressed hope that the dry season would end soon.

“Hopefully, the El Niño phenomenon does not last beyond September, because if it does, the impact of the drought will be prolonged,” he said.

Previously, during an Alert Roll Call held in the Monas area on Wednesday (2/9), Pramono instructed the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to remain on standby to face potential disasters during the dry season. This is because this dry season is accompanied by the El Niño phenomenon, which is estimated to persist until the end of September 2026.

Based on reports from the BPBD, two sub-districts have already experienced drought, namely Kalibaru and Semper. Therefore, he has requested the BPBD to anticipate drought and water shortages in Jakarta.
