Seventh Suspect: Brigadier General Lalu Iwan Meddled in MBG 'Ompreng' Project
Brigadier General Pol Lalu Muhammad Iwan Mahardan has been named a suspect by the Attorney General’s Office in relation to the corruption case involving the management of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme.
Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, Director of Investigation for the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, stated that Lalu is the seventh suspect in this case.
“We have named one more suspect, namely LMI. He served as the Head of the Legal and Public Relations Bureau of the BGN until March 2025. He currently serves as the Secretary of the Deputy for Promotion and Cooperation at the BGN,” he said during a press conference at the Attorney General’s Office on Thursday (2/6).
Based on his role, Syarief mentioned that Lalu requested witnesses YCS and RD to establish a company as a means to sell food containers (food trays), also known as ‘ompreng’, to potential SPPG partners at a predetermined price.
Syarief stated that within that price, there was a portion to be paid to Lalu. He noted that this money also served as a fee to ensure that SPPG partners were approved by the BGN.
Iwan is currently detained at the Salemba Detention Centre, South Jakarta District Attorney’s Office, for the next 20 days. He is charged under Articles 12 letters A, B, and E of the Anti-Corruption Law in conjunction with the Criminal Code.
“Included in that price was a fee for Mr LMI to ensure that the point was approved,” Syarief added.
Separately, the Head of Public Relations for the Indonesian National Police, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, emphasised that the police fully support and respect the legal process underway at the Attorney General’s Office.
He explained that Lalu will also face internal disciplinary proceedings within the police force. Isir asserted that every member of the Indonesian National Police who commits a criminal act will face both legal and ethical consequences.
“The Police are taking a firm stance in accordance with applicable service regulations and are committed to ensuring there is no impunity for any individual personnel of the Indonesian National Police who commit criminal acts,” said Isir.
Prior to Syarief’s announcement, the Attorney General’s Office had named six other suspects in this corruption case. These individuals include the former Head of BGN, Dadan Hindayana; former Deputy Heads of BGN, Sony Sonjaya and Lodewyk Pusung; Sony’s associate, Asep Yusuf Somantri (AYS); Commissioner of PT Yasa Artha Trimanunggal (YAT), Andri Mulyono; and the Chairman of the Indonesia Food Security Review Foundation, Glory Harimas Sihombing.
