Seven years for pouring acid

Prosecutor Endang Sukesi asked the judge of Central Jakarta
District Court on Thursday to sentence Cepy, 39, to seven years
in prison for pouring acid on his wife's face and body.

The ill-fated woman, Gerry, is the mother of Cepy's two
children. She decided to end five years of marriage by leaving
her husband due to many personal differences between the two.

She then rented a room in Kawi-kawi Bawah area, Central
Jakarta and found herself a new lover whose presence made her
turn down Cepy's repeated reconciliation proposals.

Jayakarta daily reported that on May 10, Cepy visited his
wife's rented room and once again asked her to return to his
house and the children.

The daily said that Gerry refused to go back. She even asked
Cepy for a divorce and claimed custody of one of her two
children.

Gerry's refusal incited her husband's ire to the point where
he then poured the acid on her.(mas)
