Seven-year-old Boy in Jambi Missing After Being Swept Away by Currents While Bathing in a Ditch
Seven-year-old Raffasya Aditya bin Amat Sabilan is reported missing after being swept away by currents while bathing with several friends in a ditch (a small river) in RT 24, Lingkar Selatan, Palmerah District, Jambi City, on Wednesday evening (20 May). According to local resident Japri, he learned of the victim from cries for help by several children who said Raffasya had drifted away. Witness Japri attempted to pursue to help but failed, blocked by a net as he ran along the overflowing ditch. He then rode a motorcycle to downstream areas, reporting that a child had been swept away. Not long after, dozens of search-and-rescue personnel from Basarnas and BPBD arrived to aid the search. While swimming, the team moved downstream along the river’s flow to the area where the victim was swept away. Because of the darkness, around 20:00 local time, the search was halted and would resume on Thursday morning. However, the victim’s family together with several residents, using available lighting equipment, continued searching.
