Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Bukit Duri subdistrict office in South Jakarta has detained seven students suspected of skipping school during enforcement operations and follow-up monitoring of public reports about activities deemed to disrupt public order.

“This activity is a form of our joint commitment, together with the Tiga Pilar elements, to maintaining public order and responding to various reports from the community for the comfort of all,” said Bukit Duri Subdistrict Head Muhammad Ngasri in Jakarta on Thursday.

Ngasri said the discovery of students truanting was made during a “Rabu Tertib” operation involving around 25 joint personnel, and as a follow-up to monitoring and community reports about activities considered disruptive.

One focus of the crackdown was a report about a group of students gathering during school hours at Kafe Warlok on Jalan Bukit Duri Tanjakan.

Based on the reports received, the activity was also reportedly linked to the use of narcotics or synthetic cigarettes.

“During this operation, officers secured seven schoolchildren for guidance, and their parents and schools have been summoned,” he said.

He added that officers also dismantled a post belonging to a community organisation (ormas) that had been set up on public land.

Officers also communicated the removal of banners, flags and signs so that they are installed in accordance with applicable regulations.

According to him, the operation also targeted a building converted into a place of worship without the appropriate permits.

The building owner has been directed to promptly report and process the conversion back into a residential house through the Suku Dinas Cipta Karya, Tata Ruang dan Pertanahan (the city’s office for spatial planning and land affairs).

“We also carried out fire mitigation by clearing obstructions on Jalan Manggis, RW 01, caused by careless parking of four-wheeled vehicles that has hampered the mobility of fire engines during emergencies in densely populated housing,” he said.

Ngasri explained that the operation was part of cross-agency cooperation to raise public awareness of order and neighbourhood security.

He hopes these efforts will create a harmonious, cohesive, safe residential environment that upholds shared interests.

“In all enforcement, we prioritise persuasive measures, including warning letters and other approaches,” he said.

Meanwhile, a Bukit Duri resident, Maulana Yusuf, welcomed the local government’s efforts to create a comfortable and safe environment.

“We support the enforcement against students found outside school during class hours. It’s true that students skipping school are often seen. However, as residents, we don’t know them. Fortunately, someone reported them to the officers, and they were eventually dealt with,” he said.
