Seven Setu Babakan traders still awaiting asset status verification
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The South Jakarta Administrative City Government said seven traders were still awaiting verification of asset status as part of the redevelopment of the Setu Babakan area in Jagakarsa.
“Of the 216 traders, in principle, action has been taken in all cases. There are still seven traders who have not yet been dealt with because we need to establish the status of the assets concerned,” South Jakarta Mayor Syafrin Liputo told reporters on Jalan Bangka, South Jakarta, on Friday.
He said that, in principle, the city had addressed the cases of all 216 traders in the area. However, the seven were still awaiting confirmation of the status of the assets on which they trade.
According to him, the government needs information on the assets’ status from the relevant regional agencies before carrying out any further enforcement.
Once the status has been confirmed, the government can verify the locations occupied or used for trading by the seven traders.
He said improvements to the area were continuing in parallel with efforts to resolve the issue.
“Improvements are continuing,” said the former head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency.
The city hopes it can complete the redevelopment of Setu Babakan once the verification process is finished, enabling the area to be used in accordance with regulations.
Measures involving the traders are part of the government’s efforts to redevelop Setu Babakan, known as one of South Jakarta’s centres for preserving Betawi culture.
The South Jakarta City Government is redeveloping the Setu Babakan Betawi Cultural Village Area Management Unit (UPK PBB) in Jagakarsa to restore its function as a centre for Betawi cultural and culinary tourism.
