Seven Pigs Perish in Feed Production Facility Fire in Gianyar
Seven pigs were killed after a livestock feed production facility in Banjar Salak, Keliki Village, Tegallalang District, Gianyar Regency, caught fire. The building had been left locked by its owner while a wood-burning stove remained lit.
“A permanent building used for pig feed production in Banjar Salust, Keliki Village, Tegallalang District, Gianyar Regency, caught fire. The incident occurred at 10:30 WITA,” said the Head of Public Relations for the Gianyar Police, Ipda Gusti Ngurah Suardita, on Monday (28/09/2026).
Suardita stated that the fire was caused by the negligence of the building owner, I Made Duduk. At the time, Duduk was preparing pig feed using a wood-burning stove at approximately 09:30 WITA.
However, the feed production process was not completed before Duduk left the building. All doors were subsequently locked tightly, even though the stove remained lit.
“After leaving the location, the entire building was closed and locked,” said Suardita.
Flames from the active stove ignited the wood surrounding the stove, eventually spreading to the building’s roof. The fire intensified, consuming almost the entire structure.
Local residents passing by attempted to extinguish the flames, but their efforts were futile as all doors to the building were locked.
The fire was reported to the Gianyar Fire Department and the police. Shortly thereafter, Gianyar firefighters arrived at the scene to combat the blaze.
“The fire burned the wood around the stove and spread to the roof of the building,” he added.
The fire was eventually brought under control and extinguished by 12:15 WITA. Once the flames were out, officers entered the building.
Inside the facility, officers discovered seven pigs that had died, roasted by the intense heat of the fire.
“Material losses are estimated to reach Rp 100 million. The fire is suspected to have originated from the wood-burning stove,” he concluded.
