Seven New CLI-225 Electric Trains Forced into Workshops; INKA Breaks Silence
A total of seven Kereta Rel Listrik (KRL) electric trainsets of the iE305 series manufactured by PT Industri Kereta Api (Persero), or INKA, have been withdrawn from operations to undergo intensive maintenance through a General Check Up (GCU) process.
The maintenance is being carried out to ensure that all components of the trainsets function optimally, particularly those related to journey safety. As part of the process, INKA has deployed its engineering and quality assurance teams to conduct inspections alongside KAI Commuter and related stakeholders.
Nanang Agung Rohmandiyas, Senior Manager of Corporate Communication and Representative Office at INKA, said the inspection covers a number of important components, from the bogie system and propulsion system to other parts related to travel safety.
“Since the process began, our engineering and quality assurance teams have been on the ground with the KAI Commuter team to ensure every component, including the bogies and propulsion system, functions optimally. We fully support this process to guarantee the reliability and safety of the rolling stock,” Nanang said in a statement when contacted by CNBC Indonesia on Tuesday (8/9/2026).
INKA said the GCU process forms part of the company’s commitment as a KRL manufacturer to maintain the quality and reliability of the products used in Commuter Line services.
Nanang added that the company will continue to coordinate with KAI Commuter throughout the inspection process to ensure all INKA-manufactured trainsets meet safety and passenger comfort standards.
“For us, this is a form of responsibility as a manufacturer and of synergy within the railway ecosystem. Naturally, the aim is to improve product quality for the comfort and safety of Commuter Line users,” he said.
Meanwhile, the maintenance of several trainsets has affected the number of Commuter Line Jabodetabek services that can be operated. KAI Commuter has adjusted its timetable from Monday (7/9/2026).
Karina Amanda, VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, said the adjustment was made according to the number of available trains. The policy applies to morning and evening-to-night services and is temporary.
“We are currently carrying out intensive maintenance on the existing KRL trainsets for the safety and security of journeys,” Karina explained.
In total, 17 Commuter Line journeys have been adjusted. In the morning, seven services from Bogor/Cilebut/Depok to Manggarai/Jakarta Kota and five services from Jakarta Kota to Bogor were cancelled.
In the evening, two services from Manggarai to Bogor and three services from Bogor were adjusted. As a result, KAI Commuter now operates 1,048 Commuter Line Jabodetabek trips per day, down from the previous 1,065.
Karina said maintenance is necessary for rolling stock used by the public every day in order to maintain service reliability and ensure journey safety.
“We understand there will inevitably be some inconvenience for Commuter Line users during this maintenance process. We apologise for the disruption caused,” she said.
KAI Commuter has urged passengers to adjust their travel plans while the maintenance is under way.
“We urge all users to readjust their travel schedules,” Karina added. She also stressed that KAI Commuter will continue to provide regular updates on Commuter Line schedules and operations through announcements at stations, on board trains, the C-Access application, and via KAI Commuter’s official social media channels.
