Seven Ministries Sign Joint Decree on AI Utilisation and Learning
Jakarta — Seven ministries have signed a Joint Decree (SKB) on guidelines for the utilisation and learning of digital technology and artificial intelligence today, Thursday, 12 March 2026.
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Pratikno stated that the joint decree from the seven ministries serves as a guideline for utilising digital technology and artificial intelligence across formal, non-formal, and informal education pathways.
“This decree is not meant to obstruct but to regulate in order to mitigate risks on one side, while simultaneously ensuring that digital technology and artificial intelligence empower rather than undermine our children,” Pratikno said at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture in Central Jakarta on Thursday.
Pratikno highlighted that exposure to digital technology is already high in Indonesia, particularly among children and adolescents. Underage social media use, he noted, can trigger mental health disorders.
“Screen time exceeds 7.5 hours, meaning green time shrinks correspondingly. There are certainly many factors involved, but adolescents experiencing mental health disorders are increasing significantly,” he said.
“The trigger that has been academically proven is uncontrolled, unmonitored, and unmitigated use of digital technology,” he added.
According to Pratikno, adolescents are easily susceptible to Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) due to intensive social media influence. “Young people increasingly fear missing out, so they want to follow trends, show off, flex, and so on. Not to mention cyberbullying and other issues,” he said.
Pratikno warned that this will affect children’s education and weaken brain activity due to dependence on digital technology, reducing critical thinking and cognitive and reflective abilities.
