At least seven ministers have signed a joint ministerial decree (SKB) containing guidelines for the utilisation of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in formal, non-formal, and informal education.

The signing of the SKB was led by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Pratikno.

The signing took place at the Menko PMK office in Jakarta on Thursday (12/3/2026). The seven ministers are the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Minister of Communication and Digitalisation Meutya Hafid, Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Abdul Mu’ti, Minister of Youth and Sports Brian Yuliarto, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Fauzi, and Minister of National Development Planning Wihaji.

Pratikno stated that the SKB regulates the use of digital technology and AI in the field of education. According to him, the use of educational technology and AI must empower children, not deceive them.

Pratikno mentioned that uncontrolled use of digital technology makes children more inclined to show off and fear missing out on trends. This, he said, has been proven academically.

“One of the suspected triggers, which has been proven academically, is the utilisation of uncontrolled, unmitigated digital technology,” he said, quoted from detik.com.

“For example, teenagers are increasingly experiencing FOMO, fear of missing out, wanting to follow trends, wanting to show off, flexing, and so on,” he continued.

Pratikno emphasised that with this SKB, they will strengthen child protection in the digital space. He wants the SKB to become a momentum to ensure that children in Indonesia grow well.

“So with this seven-minister SKB, we are working hard to further strengthen child protection in the digital space, strengthening digital literacy, to responsive cyber violence reporting channels. Let us make this momentum to ensure Indonesian children grow resilient, innovative, and with character,” he said.
