Seven Luxury Homes Damaged in Medan Explosion, Four Still Trapped
A powerful explosion at the Grand Polonia housing complex in Medan Polonia District, Medan City, has resulted in damage to seven luxury homes. The incident occurred on Monday (20/7).
Medan City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak stated that the house at the centre of the explosion was completely destroyed, while surrounding homes were affected by the force of the blast. “A total of seven houses were impacted. The houses were damaged because they were located directly in front of the house that collapsed,” he said at the scene.
Calvijn explained that the explosion originated from house number 3B. The three-storey building suffered the most severe damage, with its balcony collapsing and much of the front structure destroyed. Four people are still believed to be trapped inside the debris. “Based on the data we received at the time of the incident, there were six people inside the house. A man was successfully evacuated, and a toddler is currently receiving treatment at a hospital,” he added.
Search and rescue efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining four victims, who are reportedly the homeowner’s wife and three domestic workers. The force of the blast also sent building materials flying, damaging at least three cars parked in front of the house and scattering debris across the residential complex road.
