Seven killed in truck accident

MEDAN, North Sumatra: At least seven people died when a truck carrying local traders overturned after colliding with a motorcycle on the highway to Labuhan Baru regency, Antara reported on Tuesday.

The news agency said the accident, which occurred on Monday, resulted in the deaths of the motorcyclist, R. Nainggolan, 27, and six traders identified as J. Tunkir, 20, Maruba Tunkir, 23, M. Naibaho, 21, Uboru Tambah, B. Sipayung and I. Hutabarat, ages unknown.

The truck driver and his assistant fled after the accident.

Witnesses said the truck rolled over and skidded into the ditch after one of its tires blew out following the collision. (amd)
