Seven killed in Malaysian accident
KUALA LUMPUR (AP): A driver who swerved to miss an oncoming
vehicle slammed into a crowd of women at a bus stop early
yesterday, killing seven of them and seriously injuring two
others, police said.
The victims were factory workers waiting for a company bus to
take them to work in the town of Klebang Jaya, near Ipoh, about
200 kilometers (125 miles) north of Kuala Lumpur.
The driver, Chow Chung Neng, suffered only cuts and bruises,
Ipoh police Chief Ahmad Fuaad Mohamed Sidek said. He said Chow,
26, was in police custody pending an investigation.
Police said Chow appeared to have lost control when he swerved
to avoid an oncoming vehicle after pulling out to pass a car.
