Seven Key Facts Regarding KPK Arrest Operation on Cilacap Regent
The KPK conducted an arrest operation in Cilacap, Central Java. One of those apprehended was Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman.
“Confirmed, one of those arrested is the Cilacap Regent,” said KPK Deputy Chief Fitroh Rochyanto when asked if the Cilacap Regent was among those detained on Friday, 13 March 2026.
Several individuals were arrested alongside the Cilacap Regent. KPK investigators also secured various pieces of evidence.
The KPK has 1x24 hours to determine the legal status of those apprehended. Currently, those detained remain under investigation status.
1. Total of 27 Individuals Secured
The KPK secured 27 individuals in the arrest operation in Cilacap, Central Java, including Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman.
“Today the team secured a total of 27 individuals, including the Cilacap Regent,” said KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo.
Budi stated that the 27 individuals consist of state officials and private sector representatives. He noted that all those detained are currently undergoing intensive questioning.
“These comprise state apparatus, civil servants and possibly several private sector individuals, and intensive questioning is currently being conducted. Based on information we have received, the Deputy Regent is not among those arrested,” Budi said.
2. Allegations of Project Bribery
The KPK explained that there are allegations of the Regent receiving bribes from various development projects in Cilacap. The KPK has seized evidence related to the case.
“There are allegations that the Regent received payments related to projects in Cilacap Regency,” Budi said.
3. Cash Seized from Regent Arrest Operation
In the arrest of Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman, the KPK seized a sum of money. The seized cash is allegedly related to the bribery case.
“Among the evidence secured during this arrest operation is cash,” he said.
The seized cash consists of rupiah denominations. However, the exact amount remains unknown as it is still being counted.
4. Interrogated at Banyumas Police Station
The group of individuals arrested by the KPK was transported by bus to Banyumas Police Station. The Cilacap Regent alongside several officials from the Cilacap Regency Government were also taken by the KPK.
“The group arrived here around 16.15 Western Indonesian Time. There were many people on the bus, including senior officials,” said a Banyumas Police officer who requested anonymity.
According to gathered information, in addition to the bus, the KPK also deployed several smaller vehicles. Monitoring by news sources indicated at least three vehicles with license plates B and F parked in the yard of the Criminal Investigation Unit building of Banyumas Police Station.
As of 17.14 Western Indonesian Time, Syamsul together with several officials remained under questioning at the Criminal Investigation Unit building of Banyumas Police Station.
5. Profile of Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman
Before serving as Cilacap Regent, Syamsul Auliya Rachman held the position of Deputy Regent of Cilacap. According to KPU data, Syamsul Auliya Rachman completed his education at SMAN 1 Cilacap and continued at the Institute for Domestic Government (IPDN).
At IPDN, Syamsul pursued a Bachelor of Applied Science in Government and studied during the period 2004 to 2008. He subsequently pursued postgraduate studies in applied science at Jenderal Soedirman University during 2010 to 2013. He continued doctoral studies at IPDN Jakarta in 2018-2021.
6. Government Career History
According to information on the official Cilacap Regency Government website, Syamsul Auliya Rachman began his career in local government bureaucracy serving as Head of the Security and Public Order Section (Kasi Trantibum) in Kedungreja District, Cilacap Regency in 2012. A year later, Syamsul served as Head of the Regional Autonomy and Cooperation Sub-section within the Government Administration Division of Cilacap Regency Government.
Syamsul was subsequently elected Deputy Regent of Cilacap for the 2017-2022 period. In the following period, Syamsul served as Regent of Cilacap.
