Seven Indonesian Universities Receive Software Grants to Support Electricity Sector
Seven universities from various regions in Indonesia have received grants of PSS Sincal software, which can support the transformation of the country’s power system to be more resilient and sustainable. “PSS Sincal is software that can analyse and even design power systems; this certainly provides great support to the education sector,” said President Director and CEO of PT Siemens Indonesia Surya Fitri at the Siemens Tech Summit 2026 in Jakarta on Thursday. The seven universities are the School of Electrical Engineering & Informatics at Institut Teknologi Bandung (STEI ITB), Institut Teknologi Nasional Malang (ITN Malang), Universitas Brawijaya (UNBRAW), Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA), Universitas Trisakti (USAKTI), Universitas Jember (UNEJ), and Politeknik Negeri Sriwijaya (POLSRI). The universities were selected based on their distribution, which is not solely focused on Java, and the readiness of their campus infrastructure to receive the software. Surya explained that the PSS Sincal software will help students create more automated power systems and quickly calculate voltage levels. He noted that the programme is specifically designed for the planning, evaluation, and optimisation of electrical network systems, including distribution, transmission, industrial, and pipeline networks. In addition to the software, the grant will also provide workstations for the selected campuses, enabling students to use them for study and simulation analysis of power systems, as well as gaining practical experience that closely mirrors real industrial conditions. “Because the education sector very rarely gets the opportunity to access software, and securing investment on campus is not easy, we feel obliged to participate,” he said. Each university receiving the grant will obtain PSS Sincal software worth Rp100 million. The software will subsequently become part of the curriculum used by the seven universities. To support the implementation of PSS Sincal, Siemens will also hold a competition in the near future to see how far the use of this tool can contribute to developing future young talent in supporting Indonesia’s electricity transformation.
