Seven Indonesian nationals detained by Israel; two more on Kasr 1 Sadabat
Jakarta — The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) said that by 19:50 Western Indonesian Time, the number of Indonesian citizens (WNI) who are members of the Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI) detained by Israel had risen to seven. Meanwhile, two other Indonesians were still aboard the Kasr 1 Sadabat.
‘From the total of nine Indonesian nationals who are part of Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI) within the GSF 2.0 mission, seven have been reported detained by the Israeli military in the vicinity of the Cyprus waters or the Eastern Mediterranean. The two other Indonesians are known to remain aboard Kasr 1 Sadabat,’ said Kemenlu spokesperson Vahd Nabyl Mulachela in a statement on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.
Nabyl said the on-ground situation remains highly dynamic. The Indonesian mission representatives are on full standby to promptly follow up on any developments on the ground. ‘The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through Indonesian missions, will continue to monitor the situation, verify the positions and conditions of the Indonesian nationals, and prepare the protective measures needed,’ he added.
Earlier, the Foreign Ministry said there were a total of nine Indonesian nationals who joined Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI) and were part of a convoy heading to Gaza in a humanitarian mission. ‘Based on information as of this morning, of the nine Indonesian nationals in the Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI) within the GSF 2.0 mission, five Indonesians were reported detained by the Israeli military in the vicinity of Cyprus waters or the Eastern Mediterranean. The four others on two different vessels are said to still be sailing around Cyprus waters,’ said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang in her briefing on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.
Yvonne said that in connection with this matter, the ministry is coordinating with the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara, the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, the Indonesian Embassy in Rome, the Indonesian Embassy in Amman, and the Indonesian Consulate General in Istanbul, and is preparing anticipatory steps. ‘Anticipatory steps such as issuing SPLP if Indonesians’ passports are seized and medical support if required,’ she said.
She stressed that the Foreign Ministry strongly condemns the Israeli military’s actions in intercepting several ships and detaining Indonesian volunteers who are part of the humanitarian mission in the flotilla. ‘The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns the Israeli military’s interception of several ships and detaining Indonesian volunteers who are part of the Global Sumud Flotilla or GSF 2.0 off the coasts of Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean,’ she said.
