Seven Illegal Level Crossings on the KRL Green Line to Be Permanently Closed, Here Are Their Locations
The Banten Provincial Government will permanently close a number of illegal level crossings, including seven on the KRL Green Line within Daop 1 Jakarta, as part of efforts to improve rail travel safety and reduce the risk of accidents at level crossings. Tri Nurtopo, Head of the Banten Department of Transportation (Dishub), said nine illegal level crossings in Banten will be closed permanently this year. The closures are based on reports from Daop 1 Jakarta identifying crossings that pose safety risks. Locations include: The plan also covers illegal level crossings on the Merak Local Railway line. Tri said the closures are based on reports from Daop 1 Jakarta regarding risky crossings. “There are nine illegal level crossings in Banten that will be closed permanently this year,” he said. Of the nine crossings, some have already been addressed by the provincial government, while others remain under the authority of regencies and cities. “205 railway crossings in Banten are mostly handled by the provincial government. Only districts/cities remain,” he added. He noted that six crossings have already been closed, including one near Cisauk Station after the flyover construction was completed. According to Tri, crossings at that location will be closed once the flyover construction is finished. “Because some are registered and guarded and some are not,” he said. Plans for flyovers in Serpong and Jombang were previously discussed by Tangerang Selatan Mayor Benyamin Davnie and Deputy Mayor Pilar Saga Ichsan during the 2024 Tangerang Selatan local elections campaign. At the time, Pilar said flyovers and underpasses were needed to ease congestion in Tangerang Selatan, which is traversed by around 2 million vehicles daily. “The flyover plan will be carried out in Jombang, Sudimara, and Serpong. We will see which is most crucial and build that first,” Pilar said in a campaign event in Ciputat in October 2024.
