Seven Houses Damaged in Medan Explosion, Six People Feared Trapped

An explosion at the elite Grand Polonia housing complex in Medan, North Sumatra, has damaged seven houses. The blast is suspected to have originated from a gas pipe.

“The source was from house number 3B, but around six to seven houses were affected,” said Medan Police Chief Commissioner Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak on Monday.

He explained that the damaged houses are located directly in front of the collapsed property. Police believe six people were inside the luxury house at the time of the explosion. Two have been successfully evacuated.

“Based on the data we have received, six people were living inside. A man has been evacuated, and a toddler is currently being treated at a hospital,” Calvijn stated. Authorities, along with other agencies, are continuing efforts to evacuate the four remaining individuals believed to be trapped inside.
