Seven Days Before Eid, KAI Records Almost 50,000 Passengers Departing Jakarta
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Operations 1 Jakarta recorded nearly 50,000 passengers leaving Jakarta by train on Saturday, 14 March 2026, coinciding with seven days before the Islamic New Year celebration Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijrah, estimated to fall on 21 April 2026.
Franoto Wibowo, Public Relations Manager of KAI Regional Operations 1 Jakarta, stated that by 11.42 WIB, the number of passengers departing from various stations in the Regional Operations 1 Jakarta area had reached 49,895 persons.
Meanwhile, the number of passengers arriving in Jakarta on the same day was recorded at 30,841 persons. However, this figure is still subject to change as ticket sales continue.
At Gambir Station specifically, the number of departing passengers reached 17,176 persons, whilst arriving passengers numbered 7,711 persons.
To anticipate increased passenger numbers during the Eid holiday travel period, KAI Regional Operations 1 Jakarta is operating 68 regular train services and adding 12 additional journeys from Gambir Station.
Franoto explained that several long-distance trains have become popular with the public during the Eid holiday travel period, which runs from 11 March to 1 April 2026.
Some of the most sought-after trains by passengers include KA Pandalungan, KA Argo Semeru, KA Gunungjati, KA Cakrabuana, KA Pangandaran, and KA Batavia.
Overall, since the Eid holiday travel period began on 11 March until 14 March 2026, the total number of passengers departing from all stations in the Regional Operations 1 Jakarta area reached 166,821 persons. Meanwhile, arriving passengers were recorded at 88,325 persons.
During this year’s Eid holiday travel period, KAI Regional Operations 1 Jakarta has provided a total of 1,076,196 passenger seats. Of this total, 698,021 long-distance train tickets have been sold, bringing the average occupancy rate to approximately 65 per cent.
Consequently, approximately 377,902 seats remain available for long-distance travel from Jakarta on Saturday, across various service classes.
Data from KAI Regional Operations 1 Jakarta also shows that the period from 11 to 20 March represents the peak ticket sales period, with a total of 451,219 tickets sold during this 10-day period.
Some dates with the highest ticket sales include 15 March with 51,044 tickets, 18 March with 49,663 tickets, 19 March with 49,023 tickets, 16 March with 48,669 tickets, and 17 March with 47,275 tickets.
Franoto added that between 15 and 20 March 2026, remaining passenger seats are very limited.
