Setnov Remembers Alex Noerdin: He Was an Extraordinary Figure

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Former Speaker of the Indonesian Parliament, Setya Novanto, has paid tribute to the late former Governor of South Sumatra, Alex Noerdin, describing him as an extraordinary figure.

This was conveyed by Setnov after paying his respects at the home of Alex Noerdin, located at the residence of Alex’s son, Dodi Reza, in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Wednesday evening (25/6/2026).

“He was an extraordinary figure whom I greatly respect and am proud of, because he was a very strong person,” said Setnov on Wednesday.

Setnov recounted that when he served as the chairman of Golkar in 2016-2017, Alex was the chairman of the Golkar Regional Branch (DPD) of South Sumatra.

“He was a person who had an extraordinary vision and mission for his region. He developed the city, built infrastructure, and all of this was done well,” said Setnov.

Therefore, Setnov said he was very saddened by the passing of Alex Noerdin.

“And of course, we are very saddened, and whatever happens, we hope that he will be accepted by God for all his sacrifices during his time in the city of Palembang,” he said.

It was reported that Alex Noerdin passed away on Wednesday while undergoing medical treatment at a hospital.

The body of Alex Noerdin is scheduled to be flown to Palembang on Thursday morning (26/2/2026) to be buried at the Kebun Bunga Family Cemetery in the afternoon.
