SETARA Institute Urges Prabowo to Form Joint Fact-Finding Team for Andrie Yunus Activist Terror Case
Jakarta - The National Board Chairman of the SETARA Institute, Hendardi, has urged President Prabowo Subianto to immediately form a Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) to investigate the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus.
“In the ongoing controversy surrounding the handling of the Andrie Yunus case so far, President Prabowo Subianto has no other choice but to establish a Joint Fact-Finding Team,” Hendardi stated in a written press release on Sunday (29/3/2026).
Firstly, the resignation of the Head of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS), Lieutenant General Yudi Abrimantyo, which is seen as an act of accountability for the case.
According to Hendardi, the police had previously revealed the initials of two suspects in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. However, these initials differ from the suspects identified by the TNI.
“This development is certainly a highly concerning controversy for law enforcement,” he said.
He assessed that forming a TGPF would be an objective step to uncover the case transparently while fulfilling the public’s right to information.
“Considering the latest developments, the political will to uphold the law can only be realised through the establishment of a TGPF,” Hendardi stated.
It is known that Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid in the Salemba I Street area, Central Jakarta, on 12 March 2026.
Currently, he is still undergoing intensive treatment in the High Care Unit (HCU) at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM).
His condition is serious, with chemical burns covering 24 percent of his body, affecting his face, chest, and both arms. The medical team has also reported ischaemia (reduced blood flow) in about 40 percent of the right eye area, causing thinning of the corneal tissue.
So far, Andrie has undergone several medical procedures, including debridement to remove dead tissue and skin grafts. Full recovery is estimated to take up to two years.
In this case, four members of the TNI BAIS have been detained for their involvement in the attack on Andrie.
However, the TNI has not yet explained the motive or the mastermind behind the acid attack on the human rights activist.
