Set for Surgery After Today's Prosecution Hearing, Here's Nadiem Makarim's Preparation
Jakarta, VIVA – Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Makarim, is scheduled to undergo a hearing for the reading of the prosecution’s demands at the Corruption Court in Jakarta on Wednesday, 13 May 2026.
It is known that Nadiem is the defendant in the corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management.
Based on observations, Nadiem was in the courtroom with his wife, Franka Franklin, and also received support from several online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol).
Nadiem emphasised that he is ready to face today’s prosecution hearing, even though he must undergo surgery at the hospital after the trial.
“I am ready to face the prosecution hearing today, even though I will have surgery at the hospital tonight. So, whatever happens today, I will face it,” he said at the Corruption Court.
On the other hand, Nadiem is grateful that he was able to return home on Tuesday to receive treatment for his health condition.
“I am truly grateful to be able to get treatment so that during my surgery, I won’t need to deal with reinfection again and again. That is very important to me,” he stated.
It is known that in this case, Nadiem is charged with committing the criminal act of corruption in the education digitalisation programme in the form of the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management (CDM) within the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology for the 2019–2022 fiscal years.
The total state losses charged amount to Rp2.18 trillion. In detail, the losses include Rp1.56 trillion related to the education digitalisation programme in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, as well as 44.05 million US dollars or equivalent to Rp621.39 billion, which is said to come from the procurement of CDM that was deemed unnecessary and provided no benefits.
The prosecutors charge that the procurement of information and communication technology-based learning facilities was carried out not in accordance with planning and violated the principles of goods and services procurement.
In the indictment, it is stated that Nadiem is alleged to have received money amounting to Rp809.59 billion originating from PT AKAB through PT Gojek Indonesia. It is also mentioned that most of PT AKAB’s funds came from Google’s investment of 786.99 million US dollars.
The indictment is also linked to the 2022 State Organiser’s Wealth Report (LHKPN), in which Nadiem is recorded as having securities worth Rp5.59 trillion.
