Padang (ANTARA) - Commander of the Padang Military District Command (Kodim) 0312, Colonel Inf Ferry Adianto, stated that the Indonesian National Armed Forces Staff and Command School (Sesko TNI) will conduct research on disaster management in West Sumatra (Sumbar) that occurred at the end of November 2026.

“This research is part of Sesko TNI’s strategic programme related to disaster management,” he said in Padang on Monday.

Ferry explained that the research focuses on patterns in disaster management, including synergy between the TNI, local government, and police, when the region faces hydrometeorological disasters that occurred at the end of November 2026.

He explained that this research relates to the handling of flash floods and landslides. At that time, the TNI, local government, and police were directly involved in field management.

In addition, he said, the research will also review the universal defence system in the Minangkabau region, from resource readiness to regional support for facilities and infrastructure in facing potential disasters.

Meanwhile, West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi described the geographical conditions of West Sumatra with a high level of vulnerability to hydrometeorological disasters, especially along the Bukit Barisan area.

In that meeting, he emphasised that the West Sumatra Provincial Government (Pemprov Sumbar) acted quickly to declare an emergency response status when the disaster occurred to ensure public safety and accelerate field coordination.

“The main consideration is the safety of residents. When the incident spreads to several strategic points, there must be no delay in command,” he said.
