Jakarta — Secretary of the Cabinet (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya received an audience with Hans Patuwo, CEO of PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk, to coordinate ensuring policies favourable to online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojek online/ojol) while maintaining the sustainability of the business. In a statement on the official Cabinet Secretariat post, quoted from Jakarta, on Saturday, Seskab Teddy welcomed GoTo’s CEO at the Cabinet Secretariat Office on Friday night, 22 May, and discussed a number of inputs. ‘At present, the government and business players continue to coordinate to seek the best solutions that are favourable to the drivers, while ensuring the sustainability of the business ecosystem so that it remains healthy and develops,’ Seskab said. He added that GoTo, at the meeting, conveyed its commitment to supporting the President Prabowo Subianto’s policy to increase drivers’ income from 80 percent to 92 percent of total transactions. GoJek currently has around 800 thousand to 1 million active drivers across Indonesia. Since it first began operating, the number of drivers who joined has reached 3 million, whether still active, part-time, or no longer driving. ‘The President emphasised that improving the welfare of online drivers must go hand in hand with fair and sustainable business viability, where the app operators must continue to obtain profits from the business in a fair and increasing manner,’ he said. Earlier in a statement on Tuesday, 19 May, GoJek said it would discontinue the GoRide Hemat subscription programme for driver partners. Hans said the decision is the company’s move to adapt to Presidential Regulation No. 27 of 2026 concerning the income share of driver partners. President Prabowo Subianto has signed Presidential Regulation No. 27 of 2026 on the Protection of Online Transport Workers, one of whose points regulates income sharing between the app and drivers. This was announced by the President when attending International Labour Day at the National Monument on 1 May 2026.
