Services and Tourism Sectors Drive National Investment Achievement
The services and tourism sectors have become the primary drivers of national investment realisation.
Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstream Industries/Deputy Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Todotua Pasaribu, revealed that in the first quarter of 2025, national investment realisation reached Rp 465.2 trillion. Of this total, the services and tourism sector contributed Rp 41 trillion.
"Indonesia's investment realisation data for the first quarter of this year shows an achievement of Rp 465.2 trillion, or 24.4% of the President's target. The other services sector is the fourth-largest contributor, which includes tourism," Todotua explained in an official statement on Thursday (5/6).
The statement was made to coincide with the inauguration of the Westin Nirup Island Resort and Spa on Nirup Island, Batam.
On the occasion, Todotua also highlighted the significant potential of the Riau Islands as a national investment destination. During the 2020–2024 period, the province recorded an investment realisation value of Rp 148.65 trillion. Batam City was the largest contributor, accounting for 61.99% or Rp 92.15 trillion.
"Although the technology industry sector remains dominant, the growth opportunities for the tourism sector in this region are enormous," he added.
Todotua affirmed the government's commitment to supporting the growth of the tourism sector as part of long-term investment policy. He expressed optimism regarding the economic impact of developing integrated tourism zones such as the Westin Nirup.
"We are fully confident that the Westin Nirup Island Resort and Spa will bring a new concept of integrated tourism, particularly in Batam, and furthermore will attract more investment in the Riau Islands and across Indonesia," Todotua explained.
