Serviceman masterminds theft
JAKARTA (JP): A First Corporal in the army has been
apprehended by the Cilincing police sub-precinct, North Jakarta,
for his involvement in motorcycle thefts.
City Police Spokesman Let. Col. Iman Haryatna said yesterday
that the serviceman, identified only as BU bin Sar, 33,
allegedly asked a friend, Mar, to steal motorcycles.
The suspect gave Mar Rp 200,000 in advance payment for the
bikes at a meeting in Tanjungpura, Indramayu, West Java on Jan.
5, Iman said.
Iman did not say how much the suspect would pay for the stolen
motorcycle.
Having agreed to the plan, Mar invited a friend, Jum, to join
in the conspiracy. The team struck twice, on Jan. 13 and 14, to
fulfill Sar's request.
When informed by Mar and Jum that his request had been
fulfilled, Sar borrowed a truck from a friend to pick up the two
stolen motorcycles from an empty house in North Jakarta where Mar
and Jum had hidden them.
Police arrived before the suspect had a chance to take the
motorcycles away.
Mar and Jum committed similar act of burglary last December,
