Seriousness of Police Chief in Overseeing 2026 Eid Exodus Leads to Drop in Accidents and Fatalities

The seriousness of Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo in ensuring the security of the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return flows has yielded significant results. Through the implementation of Operation Ketupat 2026, carried out by the Korlantas Polri and its affiliates under the command of Korlantas Polri Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, Polri has successfully reduced the number of fatal road accident victims significantly. Based on data from the IRSMS application of Korlantas Polri, the number of fatalities during the 2026 Eid homecoming and return period was recorded at 238 people, down 104 people or 30.41 percent compared to 342 in 2025. In addition, the number of traffic accidents also experienced a decrease of 5.31 percent, from 2,880 incidents in 2025 to 2,727 in 2026. Moreover, during Operation Ketupat 2026, no prominent accidents were recorded nationally. Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has given full attention and focus to the security of the Eid homecoming and return as the largest annual humanitarian operation. All Polri ranks, especially Korlantas Polri, were ordered to provide the best service to the public, not only regulating traffic but ensuring that the public can travel safely, comfortably, and arrive at their destinations unharmed. Korlantas Polri Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho stated that although Operation Ketupat 2026 has officially closed, Polri continues security through Enhanced Routine Activities (KRYD) until 29 March 2026 in line with the Police Chief’s directives. “As Korlantas Polri, with the permission of the Chief of Police, tonight I officially close Operation Ketupat 2026. Overall, the security and public order situation during the 2026 Eid celebration was maintained safely, orderly, and conducive, without prominent incidents,” said Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho in Semarang, Central Java, on Wednesday night, 25 March 2026. He also emphasised that Polri will continue to oversee the return flow as a substantial remainder persists. “There is still a 42.29 percent remainder of the return flow that we will continue to oversee through KRYD until 29 March. This duty is an honour; we must not tire or grow weary in serving the public to ensure they return home safely and securely,” he asserted. The Police Chief’s policy to continue security through KRYD demonstrates Polri’s commitment and seriousness in providing maximum protection to the public, not only during the peak homecoming flow but also until all citizens return to their origins safely.
