Series of SPPG Misdeeds Results in BGN Sanctions
Jakarta — Recently, many Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) have engaged in troubling conduct. Yet they are supposed to deliver the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme with the highest quality standards, considering they use public funds. The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has intervened to take action against SPPGs and foundations that have deviated from proper practices. Most recently, an SPPG employee insulted “common folk lacking gratitude” when provided with substandard MBG meals. The following is a series of misconduct by SPPGs and foundations that has raised serious concerns.
SMA Negeri 2 Pamekasan in East Java rejected 1,022 meal portions distributed by SPPG As-Salman of Buddagan Village, Pademawu District, on Monday, 9 March 2026. The rejection was due to the presence of raw catfish, some still alive, in the MBG menu. Live catfish, unwashed, were placed in a single container with two slices of tofu and two slices of tempeh. The rejected MBG package represented three days of meals for students.
The Head of SMA Negeri 2 Pamekasan, Moh Arifin, stated that the school deliberately rejected the menu. This was because its condition was already foul-smelling. Within a few hours, it was predicted to spoil. “There were two slices of tempeh and tofu. The catfish was foul-smelling, raw, and some were still alive and moving inside the plastic container,” he said.
The school decided to return the menu due to concerns that it would endanger students. Raw catfish would contaminate the tempeh and tofu. Additionally, the MBG meals risked not being taken home by students.
