Series of Meetings Between President Prabowo and Megawati, Now Held at the Palace

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met once again with the fifth President and General Chair of PDI-P, Megawati Soekarnoputri, on Thursday (19/3/2026). According to Kompas.com records, this marks their fourth meeting since Prabowo was inaugurated as President in October 2024. Indeed, in two of those meetings, Prabowo and Megawati demonstrated a closeness that has long been established. Here is a series of meetings between President Prabowo and Megawati following the conclusion of the 2024 presidential election: This long-awaited meeting took place at Megawati’s residence on Jalan Teuku Umar, Central Jakarta. Gerindra Party’s Daily Chairman and Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated that the visit was conducted as a gesture of goodwill amid the Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijriah festivities. “Last night, there was indeed a goodwill meeting between Mr Prabowo and Mrs Megawati at Mrs Megawati’s residence on (Jalan) Teuku Umar. It was a goodwill meeting in observance of Eid al-Fitr,” Dasco said when met at the DPR RI Building on Tuesday (8/4/2025). Meanwhile, Megawati was accompanied by several figures, including Budi Gunawan, who at the time was serving as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs. The second meeting between Prabowo and Megawati occurred during the Pancasila Birthday Commemoration at the Pancasila Building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Central Jakarta, on Monday (2/6/2025). On this occasion, Prabowo and Megawati were even seen holding hands. Prabowo also allowed Megawati to stand in front of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The moment happened just before the ceremony, as the two were about to enter the waiting room of the Pancasila Building. Subsequently, the pair were seen conversing in the waiting room. Prabowo even remarked that Megawati looked slimmer.
