JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A series of attacks on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon peacekeeping troops in Lebanon in recent times has caused casualties, including TNI soldiers.

This has triggered strong condemnation from the Indonesian government and international attention amid the escalation of conflict in the region.

Eight TNI soldiers serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission in Lebanon became casualties amid the escalating conflict.

On 29 March 2026, one TNI soldier was killed and several others injured due to the impact of the conflict in the operational area.

On 30 March 2026, another incident occurred in southern Lebanon involving TNI Task Force personnel while carrying out escort duties to support UNIFIL operations.

In that incident, two TNI soldiers were killed and two others suffered serious injuries.

The Indonesian Ministry of Defence stated that the incident coincided with the increasing intensity of battles in the area, and the cause is still being investigated by UNIFIL.

The United Nations (UN) has revealed initial findings regarding the incident that killed three TNI soldiers serving in the peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Based on the initial investigation, one soldier was killed by a tank projectile fired by the Israeli military, while the other two died from an explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED) likely placed by the armed group Hezbollah.

It emphasised that the investigation process is ongoing, including involvement from relevant parties.

Dujarric described the incident as “unacceptable” and potentially categorised as a war crime under international law.

The UN has also requested that this case be further investigated by national authorities to bring the perpetrators to court.
