Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Kepulauan Seribu Regency Government (Pemkab) is providing rescue diver training and certification to local residents in an effort to open up new business opportunities whilst also improving the local economy.

“This training can serve as an important provision for communities who wish to become involved in the marine tourism sector as well as marine conservation activities,” said Kepulauan Seribu Regent Muhammad Fadjar Churniawan while opening the Rescue Diver Certification Training on Pramuka Island, North Kepulauan Seribu, on Tuesday (28/7).

He said the training could produce coastal communities that are more skilled, independent and ready to compete in the steadily growing marine economy sector.

He also expressed hope that the participants would make full use of the diving training to acquire specialist skills as well as an official licence to guarantee safety.

“Through this training, the divers gain maximum knowledge,” said Fadjar.

The rescue diver training was organised by the Kepulauan Seribu Food Security, Marine and Agriculture Agency (KPKP), the Panggang Marine Tourism Community Self-Help Institution of Pulau Panggang Urban Village, and PT Pertamina Nusantara Regas from 28 to 30 July 2026.

During the training, participants received several modules, including guidance on diver assistance, search and recovery, first aid methods and more.

Following this, the participants carried out diving practice using diving equipment in the waters off Pramuka Island.
