Sergeant MRR Arrested After Shooting Colleague Dead in Palembang Cafe

Palembang, VIVA – The Military Police of Kodam II/Sriwijaya have moved quickly to investigate a shooting incident that resulted in the death of an Indonesian Army soldier at an entertainment venue in Palembang, South Sumatra.
Less than 24 hours after the incident, the alleged perpetrator and the individual suspected of concealing the homemade firearm have been apprehended by authorities.
The victim has been identified as Private First Class Ferischal Alfarizky Abelsa, a member of Denkesyah Palembang Kesdam II/Sriwijaya. He died after being shot at Pan Head Cafe, located on Jalan Letjen H Alamsyah Ratu Prawiranegara, Bukit Baru, Ilir Barat I District, Palembang, early Saturday morning, May 16, 2026.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the perpetrator was Sergeant MRR. A civilian with the initials DS is also suspected of being involved in concealing the homemade firearm used in the incident.
“The incident began when the victim and the perpetrator were at the same entertainment venue. At around 02:30 WIB, an argument broke out between Private First Class BI and Sergeant MRR, which was triggered by a personal matter and escalated into a fight,” said the Head of the Army Information Service, Brigadier General TNI Donny Pramono, on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
In a desperate situation, Sergeant MRR allegedly drew a homemade firearm and fired at the victim. Private First Class Ferischal was rushed to Permata Palembang Hospital for medical treatment. However, he did not survive and was pronounced dead at 03:45 WIB by the doctor on duty. The Military Police of Kodam II/Sriwijaya immediately launched a series of investigations, including crime scene investigation, witness examination, and securing CCTV footage.
A total of 21 witnesses have been questioned in the investigation. The autopsy conducted at Bhayangkara Hospital showed that the victim died from gunshot wounds to the lower right abdomen, which penetrated the liver and left lung, causing severe bleeding.
The bullet has been removed from the victim’s body, and the results of ballistic tests from the Forensic Laboratory Unit of the South Sumatra Police are still pending. Meanwhile, the homemade firearm, believed to have been used by the perpetrator, was found at DS’s house in Srimulya Village, Sematang Borang, Palembang on Saturday night at around 20:15 WIB.
