Sergeant gets 16 months for murder
NABIRE, Irian Jaya: The Jayapura Military Tribunal sentenced First Sergeant Suyadi yesterday to 16 months imprisonment for torturing a civilian to death.
The story began on Jan. 28 at the Armed Forces (ABRI) station when Suyadi received a report from a woman who said she had been disturbed by a certain Yohanis Fasak, 29, at a plantation project.
After Yohanis was summoned to clarify the reported matter, Suyadi beat Yohanis to death, Antara reported.
Capt. Ismail who headed the team of judges said that Suyadi should not have committed such a shameful act because ABRI members should uphold discipline through persuasive and educative acts. (06)
