The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) has confirmed the death of one soldier in an incident in the area of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission in southern Lebanon. The soldier was Sergeant Farizal Rhomadhon.

TNI’s Head of Information Service, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, stated that the incident occurred on Sunday (29 March 2026) amid rising security escalations in the operational area.

“Sergeant Farizal Rhomadhon was declared fallen in the incident. TNI extends its deepest condolences for this loss, as well as for the other soldiers who were injured,” Aulia said in an official statement on Monday (30 March 2026).

Sergeant Farizal was a member of C Company UNP 7-1 Task Force Yonmek XXIII-S/UNIFIL.

In addition to one fatality, three other soldiers sustained injuries. Sergeant Rico Pramudia suffered severe wounds and was evacuated by helicopter to St. George Hospital in Beirut. Meanwhile, Sergeants Bayu Prakoso and Arif Kurniawan sustained minor injuries and are currently being treated at UNIFIL’s Level I Hospital.

The body of Sergeant Farizal is currently laid to rest at the East Sector Headquarters (HQ). TNI, together with the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut, is finalising administrative processes for repatriation to Indonesia.

Regarding the exact cause of the incident, TNI stated that an investigation is still being conducted by UNIFIL authorities. The explosion occurred amid an artillery firefight, so the source of the attack causing casualties to the Garuda troops has not yet been confirmed.

“The investigation process is ongoing. We continue to monitor the situation and prepare contingency measures according to the dynamics on the ground,” Aulia said.

TNI has also instructed all personnel to increase vigilance in accordance with UNIFIL’s standard operating procedures (SOP). Amid rising risks, TNI emphasised its commitment to continuing the world peace mission under the UN mandate.

“The mission continues to be carried out with full responsibility, with the safety of the soldiers as the top priority,” he stressed.
