Sergeant Ahmad Killed in Assault; MP Calls for End to Violence within TNI
Sergeant Ahmad Muzammil Farisa has died after being assaulted by his seniors. Member of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR), Retired Major General TNI TB Hasanuddin, has highlighted the tradition of violence within the TNI, where seniors target juniors.
“The bad tradition of violent acts carried out by seniors, commanders, superiors, or senior superiors within the TNI environment must be eliminated immediately,” TB Hasanuddin told reporters on Thursday (17/9/2026).
TB Hasanuddin expressed deep concern over the incident, stating that all forms of violence related to seniority within the TNI must cease. He noted that TNI soldiers are prepared to carry out defence duties and face various situations on the battlefield.
“As soldiers, individuals are prepared for combat. Therefore, what is needed is not just the ability to follow commands and orders, but also good cooperation between soldiers,” he said.
TB Hasanulent emphasised the importance of building healthy and respectful relationships among soldiers. In his view, an atmosphere of tension has the potential to trigger violent acts that lead to fatal incidents.
“In the field, familiarity and good relationships with one another are required, not tension that can trigger violent acts, such as beatings that result in death,” said TB Hasanuddin.
“Commanders, both platoon and company commanders, must pay attention to and understand the lives of soldiers in the field. The relationship between commanders and subordinates must be well-built so that a healthy and respectful environment is created,” he added.
On the same occasion, TB Hasanuddin requested that the investigation be conducted thoroughly and transparently to uncover the true causes and sequence of events. He believes such steps are vital to ensure similar cases do not recur.
“The perpetrators must be dealt with firmly and punished to the fullest extent of the law to provide a deterrent effect to others,” he added.
Four seniors known to have assaulted Sergeant Ahmad until his death are Sergeant JM, Sergeant MAD, Sergeant MTS, and Sergeant AH. They face a potential prison sentence of nine years.
“The article charged against the suspects is Article 131 paragraph (3) of the Military Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the Indonesian Criminal Code (Law No. 1 of 2023), which regulates assault by military personnel resulting in death, carrying a maximum prison sentence of nine years,” said Air Force Military Police Centre (Puspomau) Commander Air Vice Marshal Daan Sulfi during a press conference at the Air Force Military Police Office, East Jakarta, on Wednesday (16/9).
The suspects also face potential dishonorable discharge from the military. He expressed hope that the court’s decision would provide justice for the victim.
“Once completed, the case will be referred to the Prosecutor for trial. Whether they are dismissed or not, the Commander has stated that any sentence exceeding six months can be proposed for dishonorable discharge. This is most important, perhaps to provide justice for the victim and the family,” he stated.
The Air Force Military Police revealed that the assault on Sergeant Ahmad by his seniors involved beatings. Sergeant Ahmad was struck three times in the chest, leading to his death.
“He was struck around the chest. Three times,” said Daan Sulfante.
The case began on Tuesday (8/9) when Sergeant MTS called Sergeant RP, his junior, to ask for assistance. However, during the conversation, Sergeant RP abruptly disconnected the call.
“As a result, the senior felt annoyed, offended, and angry. Consequently, on Wednesday, a gathering of juniors was held at 21:10 WIB behind the Mes Galaksi. Sergeant RP was then subjected to 100 push-ups and sit-ups by Sergeant MTS,” he explained.
Daan Sulfi continued that other seniors, namely Sergeant JM, Sergeant MAD, and Sergeant AH, joined the location at 21:40 WIB.
“At 23:05 WIB, Sergeant JM began striking the victim, the late Sergeant Ahmad Muzamil Fahrisa. There were actually only three strikes with bare fists, positioned to hit the victim’s chest,” he revealed.
“After receiving the third blow, the victim immediately fell to his knees, became weak, and then lost consciousness,” he added.
Seeing this, the seniors attempted to revive Sergeant Ahmad. Various efforts were made, ranging from applying balm to splashing the victim’s face with water.
“Sergeant JM, along with Sergeant MTS, Sergeant MAD, and Sergeant AH—as they are of the same cohort—tried to revive the victim by applying medicated oil or balm to the nose and splashing the victim’s face and body with water,” he said.
Subsequently, they panicked because Sergeant Ahmad did not regain consciousness. Ultimately, the victim was rushed to the Emergency Department (IGD) to receive medical assistance.
“Because the victim remained unconscious and they panicked, at 23:35 WIB, the perpetrators transported the victim via a service vehicle to the Emergency Department of dr. Esnawan Antariksa Hospital (or Haji Hospital) in Pondok Gede, East Jakarta, as it was the nearest location. At approximately 23:45 WIB, after treatment by the ER staff, the victim, Sergeant Ahmad Muzamil Fahriza, was declared dead,” he concluded.
