Serdang Market in Central Jakarta to Undergo Total Revitalisation Following Fire
Two kiosks at Serdang Market, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, caught fire on Sunday (27/9) evening. Following the incident, Perumda Pasar Jaya intends to carry out a total revitalisation of the market, which has been in operation since 1976.
“This event further strengthens the urgency of the comprehensive revitalisation plan to provide market infrastructure that is safer, more modern, and suitable for all parties,” said Topik Hidayatulloh, Manager of Corporate Communications and Protocol at Perumda Pasar Jaya, in a statement on Wednesday (30/9/2026).
Topik explained that Serdang Market has been operating since 1976. Originally, the market was an ‘inpres’ market used to relocate street vendors from the Jalan Bendungan Jago area.
Currently, Serdang Market occupies a land area of 5,482 square metres, with a building area of approximately 4,195 square metres. The market also includes a parking area of 250 square metres.
In terms of utilities, Serdang Market has a PLN electricity capacity of 35,000 VA. Meanwhile, the number of active business units reaches 671 units, comprising 170 kiosks, 46 counters, 48 stalls, and 407 tents.
“The building usage rights expired in 2015,” he noted.
According to him, the market’s infrastructure requires updating and restructuring to better suit current trading activities.
On the other hand, Perumda Pasar Jaya stated that it will continue to communicate with traders during the Serdang Market revitalisation planning process. This communication is being conducted to ensure that the rights of active traders are maintained.
“The revitalisation planning process will continue to be communicated transparently with traders to protect the rights of active vendors,” he said.
Through this revitalisation, Pasar Jaya aims for Serdang Market to become a more representative centre for the people’s economy, featuring safer and more modern infrastructure. “The market upgrade is expected to support the continuity of trading activities while increasing the welfare of small-scale traders in the Central Jakarta area,” he added.
