Serang Regent Ratu Rachmatuzakiyah hopes the elected Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) at the 35th NU Congress will possess high integrity, professionalism and Islamic scholarly capacity.

“Of course, a PBNU chairman candidate who has integrity, professionalism and high Islamic scholarly capacity, as well as a commitment to making NU the best organisation in Indonesia,” said Rachmatuzakiyah in Serang on Tuesday.

The hope was conveyed as she sent off the Serang Regency NU Branch Board (PCNU) delegation and NU congregation members who will attend the 35th NU Congress in Jombang, East Java.

Rachmatuzakiyah advised the Chairman of PCNU Serang Regency, who holds voting rights at the congress, to give support to the best PBNU chairman candidate.

She said that if there are no obstacles, she will also attend the 35th NU Congress as an NU cadre.

Rachmatuzakiyah also affirmed the Serang Regency Government’s commitment to continue synergising with Islamic community organisations, including NU and Muhammadiyah.

“We need strong synergy. I am confident we can work together to make Serang Regency better. If the ulama and their congregations are harmonious and peaceful, God willing, Serang Regency will become a harmonious and peaceful regency,” she said.

Meanwhile, PCNU Serang Regency Chairman Muhammad Robby said around 300 people from Serang Regency departed for Jombang.

According to him, 240 people departed using four buses from the Serang Regent’s Pendopo, while 60 others departed from Jawilan District.

“A total of 240 people departed using four buses from the pendopo, while 60 others departed from Jawilan District,” he said.

Robby said the journey also includes pilgrimage activities to the graves of the Wali Songo and the graves of the founders of Nahdlatul Ulama.

PCNU Serang Regency hopes the 35th NU Congress can produce a leader who is close to the community and prioritises the welfare of NU and the Muslim community.

The 35th NU Congress is scheduled to take place on 27–31 August 2026 at Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School, Jombang Regency, East Java.
