Serang Regency Records 55 Active Merah Putih Village Cooperatives
Serang (ANTARA) - The Serang Regency government in Banten province has confirmed that 55 Merah Putih Village Cooperatives (KDMP) in the region are now operating and engaging in economic activities.
The Head of the Serang Regency’s Department of Cooperatives, SMEs, Industry and Trade (Diskoumperindag), Adang Rahmat, in Serang, Friday, said that although dozens of these cooperatives do not yet have permanent buildings, their business activities have been running by utilising the homes of administrators or rented buildings.
“Currently, 55 are operational. Although they do not yet have buildings, they are operating. They operate from the chairman’s house or even some rent a place,” said Adang.
Adang appreciated the enthusiasm of the village governments in driving the economy through the cooperative program. The business sectors managed by the 55 KDMPs focus on meeting basic needs that directly impact the village community.
Furthermore, he explained that of the total 326 KDMPs targeted to be established in Serang Regency, only 19 physical buildings have had their construction completed by 100 per cent.
However, these facilities are currently locked and awaiting a simultaneous inauguration ceremony by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, which is projected to take place in July or August 2026. In addition to the 19 ready-to-use buildings, Adang revealed that there are still 91 locations under construction.
“So, many of them do not even have land yet,” he said.
