Serang Regency Government Sacrifices 1,000 Goats for Distribution to 22,000 Recipients
Serang Regency Government, in collaboration with PT Kurma Adzwa Farm (KAF), sacrificed 1,000 goats at Bai Mahdi Ma’mun Islamic Boarding School in Pabuaran, Serang Regency, Banten, on Thursday, 28 May. The sacrificial meat will be distributed to 22,000 residents across 29 districts of Serang Regency. “Approximately 22,000 recipients will receive the meat, Insha’Allah, for those truly in need across all villages. I apologise if some recipients are not covered,” said Serang Regent Ratu Rachmatuzakiyah. PT KAF originally partnered with the Ministry of Villages (Kemendes) to carry out a mass sacrifice of 1,000 goats at once, which was executed at Bai Mahdi Ma’mun Islamic Boarding School with coordination from the Serang Regency Government. “This is Indonesia’s first pilot project for slaughtering 1,000 sheep at a single time,” he added. The Serang Regency Government also plans to develop thematic villages in collaboration with PT KAF to boost local economies. “We will establish more thematic villages: sheep villages, buffalo villages, cattle villages. Please pray for us,” the regent stated. Minister of Villages and Disadvantaged Regions Development (Mendes PDT), Yandri Susanto, confirmed all sacrificial animals were healthy and fit for consumption. Distribution of the meat will be ensured to reach recipients via local village governments (pemdes). “Veterinarians are involved to ensure the meat is safe for consumption, and village governments verify that the beneficiaries are correctly targeted,” said Minister Yandri Susanto at the same location. Yandri noted that several regions in Indonesia already have thematic villages, such as egg-laying chicken villages, broiler chicken villages, tilapia fish villages, catfish villages, fruit villages, corn villages, and rice villages. Kemendes plans to establish villages dedicated to sacrificial animal production, including in Serang Regency. Meat demand remains high for various purposes, including qurban, satay, rendang, and penalty sacrifices for umrah or hajj pilgrims. “This presents opportunities for villages, and Alhamdulillah, we have assistance for villages aiming to become thematic livestock villages, such as sheep, cattle, or buffalo villages,” he added.
