Serang Regency Government Increases Incentives for Madrasah and Quranic Teachers by 50%

The Serang Regency Government has increased incentives for 20,445 madrasah and Quranic teachers by 50% during the first year of administration by Regent Ratu Rachmatuzakiyah and Vice-Regent Muhammad Najib Hamas. This move demonstrates the regency government’s commitment to strengthening religious education, which plays a crucial role in shaping the character of local youth.

Beneficiaries are spread across various districts in Serang Regency, including Quranic teachers, madrasah diniyah instructors, and educators at Islamic educational institutions.

The government has set varying incentive amounts based on education level and teaching type. Quranic teachers and those at Quranic Education Centers (TPQ) receive Rp150,000 monthly, while madrasah diniyah awaliyah teachers get Rp300,000. Meanwhile, teachers at Raudhatul Athfal (RA), Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI), and Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) receive Rp100,000 per month.

Regency Secretary Zaldi Dhuhana stated the incentive increase reflects the local government’s support for religious educators who have significantly contributed to building community morals and ethics. “This assistance is a concrete demonstration of the Regent and Vice-Regent’s commitment. We recognise that Quranic and madrasah teachers are pivotal in shaping community character. The increased incentives are expected to boost their enthusiasm and dedication in teaching,” he said.

He added the policy aligns with the “Serang Bahagia” (Serang Happiness) development vision, which prioritises improving human resource quality through equitable and just education.

Beyond economic impact, the policy also motivates educators to serve with greater dedication. Syamsudin, a Quranic teacher from Ciruas District, expressed gratitude for the government’s attention. “Alhamdulillah, we are deeply thankful. This serves as motivation to continue teaching and guiding children to improve their Quranic reading and religious understanding,” he said.

The incentive increase is seen as a strategic step to sustain religious education amid modern challenges. With government support, teachers can focus on their roles without welfare concerns.

The regency government confirmed the programme will be regularly evaluated and enhanced for broader benefits, alongside other initiatives to strengthen religious education quality, including teacher capacity building and institutional strengthening.

Through this policy, Serang Regency affirms that development focuses not only on physical infrastructure but also on building characterful, religious, and competitive citizens.
