Serang Prosecutor's Office Halts Meth Case via Restorative Justice, Defendant Rehabilitated at Islamic Boarding School

The Serang District Prosecutor’s Office has conducted a restorative justice process in a case involving the abuse of methamphetamine with 0.5 grammes of evidence. The office halted the case, released the defendant named Supriyatna alias Bodong, and required him to undergo rehabilitation. Head of the Serang District Prosecutor’s Office, Dado Achmad Ekroni, has handed over the Notice of Termination of Prosecution to the defendant. The defendant has been released from prosecutor’s detention, having previously been held at the Serang Class IIB Detention Centre. The Serang Prosecutor’s Office assessed that the rehabilitation requirements for abusers had been met as stipulated in Chapter IV on Prosecution, Section B, point 4, with several considerations. “Based on the results of an integrated assessment, it is qualified as methamphetamine abuse in the moderate category with situational usage patterns, totalling 0.5166 grammes of meth,” Dado said in a written statement on Friday. “The suspect Supriyatna alias Bodong bin Supi is also not involved in an illicit drug trafficking network and is an end user,” he stated. Additionally, the suspect was arrested with drug evidence not exceeding a single day’s usage amount, namely meth in two small plastic bags. The suspect has also never undergone rehabilitation previously. Based on these considerations, the Head of the Serang District Prosecutor’s Office issued the Notice of Termination of Prosecution dated 18 June 2026. Through this letter, Supriyatna is required to undergo medical care and treatment through a three-month medical rehabilitation programme at the Adhyaksa Rehabilitation Centre of the Banten High Prosecutor’s Office at Banten Regional General Hospital. “(The defendant is also required) to undergo spiritual rehabilitation for one month at the Bani Syifa Islamic Boarding School in Serang to assist with religious, spiritual, and disciplinary development,” he said. According to Dado, the termination of prosecution based on restorative justice is evidence of the implementation of the Dominus Litis principle held by prosecutors as case controllers. This is applied by using conscience to achieve justice and truth based on the belief in the One Almighty God.
