Serang Police Arrest Syndicate for Burglary Using Window-Prying Method
The Serang City Police (Polresta Serang Kota) have arrested a house burglary syndicate that operated by prying open windows. The thieves managed to make off with cash and mobile phones belonging to the victims, which they then sold.
The Head of Serang City Police, Commissioner Yudha Satria, explained that on 10 July 2026, at around 04.00 WIB, a victim with the initials DD woke up and realised that his mobile phone and a sum of cash were missing. The victim is known to live in the Baros subdistrict of Serang Regency.
“The victim, named DD, lost an iPhone 16 Pro and a black Samsung Galaxy A53. According to his account, he was asleep inside the house at the time. The perpetrators managed to get in by prying open a window,” said Police Commissioner Yudha Satria on Thursday (30/7/2026).
Based on the report, police immediately investigated and processed the crime scene. Officers also questioned several witnesses and analysed CCTV footage around the location.
“It turned out that, when carrying out their actions in the early hours of that morning, the perpetrators did not only target DD’s house. Three of the victim’s neighbours, namely SA, MH and MD, also fell victim to the break-ins,” he said.
Like DD, the other victims also lost mobile phones and cash.
The Head of the General Crimes Unit at Serang City Police, Inspector Angga Kusuma Wardana, said the suspects were arrested on Thursday, 23 July 2026. Initially, police managed to trace the whereabouts of the evidence, which led them to the fences.
“We secured all the suspects at their respective homes. Initially, we first arrested suspects SM (26) and DI (36), who acted as fences. From SM’s testimony, we learned that the stolen mobile phones had been obtained from a relative, JL (38),” said Inspector Angga.
Armed with information from the fences, police then apprehended JL as the main executor of the house break-ins, along with IL, who played the role of picking JL up after he carried out his crimes.
From the interrogation, JL admitted to his actions. Meanwhile, suspects DI and SM were found to have helped sell the stolen goods at prices ranging from Rp 200,000 to Rp 800,000.
“At present, we are still in the process of locating the iPhone as evidence. We are also still pursuing one individual with the initials S, who is on the wanted persons list (DPO) from this group of fences,” he stated.
As a result of their actions, the suspects must now languish in the detention cells of the Serang City Police Headquarters and have been charged under different articles according to their respective roles.
The perpetrators of the theft have been charged under Article 477 paragraph 1 of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code. The fences of the stolen goods have been charged under Article 591 of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code.
