Serang Police Arrest Syndicate for Burglary Using Window-Prying Method
The Serang City Police have arrested a syndicate of house burglars who used a window-prying method. The thieves made off with cash and mobile phones belonging to the victims. Kapolresta Serang Kota, Senior Commissioner Yudha Satria, explained that on 10 July 2026, at around 4 a.m. Western Indonesian Time, a victim identified as DD woke up to find his phone and some cash missing. The victim resides in Baros District, Serang Regency. “Victim DD lost an iPhone 16 Pro and a black Samsung Galaxy A53. According to his statement, the victim was asleep inside the house. The perpetrators managed to enter by prying open a window,” Senior Commissioner Yudha Satria stated on Thursday (30/7/2026). Following the report, police immediately launched an investigation and processed the crime scene. Officers also examined several witnesses and analysed CCTV footage from the surrounding area. It turned out that during their early morning operation, the perpetrators did not only target DD’s house. Three of the victim’s neighbours, identified as SA, MH, and MD, were also burgled. Like DD, the other victims lost mobile phones and cash. The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the Serang City Police, First Inspector Angga Kusuma Wardana, conveyed that the perpetrators were arrested on Thursday, 23 July 2026. Initially, police managed to track the evidence, which led them to the receivers of the stolen goods. “We secured all the suspects at their respective residences. Initially, we arrested suspects SM (26) and DI (36), who acted as the fences. From SM’s statement, it was revealed that the stolen phones were obtained from JL (38),” said First Inspector Angga. Based on information from the fences, police then apprehended JL, the main executor of the burglaries, along with IL, who acted as JL’s driver after the crimes. During questioning, JL admitted to his actions. Meanwhile, suspects DI and SM were found to have helped sell the stolen goods at varying prices, ranging from Rp 200,000 to Rp 800,000. “Currently, the iPhone evidence is still being sought. We are also pursuing an individual identified as S, who is on the wanted list from this fencing group,” he stressed. As a result of their actions, the suspects are now being held in the detention cell at the Serang City Police Headquarters and are charged with different articles according to their roles. The burglary perpetrator is charged under Article 477, paragraph 1 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code. The fences are charged under Article 591 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.
