Serang Mayor Reveals Rp 9 Billion Leakage in Parking Levies, Demands Evaluation

The Mayor of Serang, Budi, stated on Tuesday (19/5/2026) that the city’s parking revenue targets have consistently failed to be met, despite the visible increase in vehicle ownership. He called for an urgent evaluation of the parking levy collection system, noting a leakage of approximately Rp 9 billion.

“Coincidentally, we also have findings from the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) indicating that we have lost around Rp 9 billion in that area,” Budi remarked. He explained that while the Serang City Government set a parking levy target of Rp 3.5 billion, the actual collection has consistently failed to reach even 50 per cent of that goal.

Budi identified the source of the leakage as occurring between parking attendants and coordinators. He has since convened a meeting with parking attendants and coordinators at the Serang Mayor’s office, noting that the issue stems from managers failing to remit the full amount to the government. “The leakage happens because payments are not being made in full. For example, if the monthly target is Rp 15 million, they only pay Rp 5 million per month, and no warnings are issued. Therefore, my stance now is that if they continue this way, I will revoke their appointment decrees,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Regional Secretary of Serang, Nanang Saefudin, warned parking managers to strictly adhere to regulations. He stated that if fraudulent activities continue, the city government will revoke their parking management permits. “If they refuse to comply, we will simply replace them, and the Department of Transportation (Dishub) will take over the management directly. This would be fairer and prevent further leakages,” he added.
