Serang man accused of murdering girlfriend by hanging her while unconscious

A man in Serang, Banten, identified as AS (47), murdered his girlfriend BY (40) by hanging her while she was still alive. The murder occurred a week before the victim’s body was discovered on Monday, 18 May at approximately 5pm. The couple had arranged to meet in a garden in Gelam Village at 3am. During the meeting, the victim made remarks that angered the suspect, who reportedly had no money or ‘mokondo’. The suspect became enraged and attacked the victim. ‘First, he hit her from behind. After the victim lost consciousness, the suspect panicked and staged it to look like a suicide by hanging,’ said Kanit Jatanras Polresta Serang Kota Iptu Angga Kusuma Wardana on Monday, 25 May 2026. The suspect took a rope from under the motorcycle seat, which had been used to tie his child’s bicycle. ‘The suspect took a rope and hanged the victim’s neck on a tangkil tree,’ he added. The head of the Serang City Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Kompol Alfano Ramadhan, confirmed the victim was hanged while unconscious, meaning she was still alive. ‘Yes, she was still alive when unconscious [hanged],’ said the head of the Serang City Police Criminal Investigation Unit. AS has been charged under Articles 459 and 458 of the Indonesian Criminal Code for premeditated murder and/or murder.
